Peter Gaehtgens is a German professor of physiology. In 1999, he became president of Free University of Berlin after winning the associated elections against Gesine Schwan. He stayed in this position until 2003, when he was elected president of the German "Rector's Conference" (Hochschulrektorenkonferenz). Gaethgens was a leading proponent of the country-wide introduction of tuition fees at German universities. For this reason, he was heavily criticized in public.
Jean-Jacques Favier
Jean-Jacques Favier is a French engineer and a former CNES astronaut who flew aboard the STS-78 NASA Space Shuttle mission. Favier was due to fly aboard the destroyed Columbia mission in 2003, but later signed out of the mission. Jean-Jacques Favier has been Deputy Director for Space Technology and Deputy Director for Advanced Concepts and Strategy at CNES, Director of the Solidification Laboratory at the French Atomic Energy Commission and Research Program Director at the International Space University.

Hans Schaidinger, , has been mayor of the city of Regensburg, Germany from 1996-2014. He studied economics, is married and father of two daughters. Schaidinger entered service for the city of Regensburg in 1978 and was working in the areas of economy support and city development. From 1991 to 1996 he was working for the DIBAG Industriebau AG in Munich. In 1996 he was first elected mayor of Regensburg and reelected in 2002 and 2008.
