Václav Benda was a Czech Roman Catholic activist and intellectual, and mathematician. Under Communist rule in Czechoslovakia, Benda was rare in being a believing Christian while also a senior member of the anti-communist dissident organization Charter 77. After the Velvet Revolution, Benda became the head of an organization charged with investigating the former Communist secret police and their informants.

Andi Muhammad Ghalib was an Indonesian Military officer, politician, and diplomat. He served as the Attorney General of Indonesia from 1998 to 1999 within the Development Reform Cabinet of President B. J. Habibie. Ghalib resigned as Attorney General in June 1999 amid a corruption scandal.

David Kazhdan or Každan, Kazhdan, formerly named Dmitry Aleksandrovich Kazhdan, is a Soviet and Israeli mathematician known for work in representation theory. Kazhdan is a 1990 MacArthur Fellow.
