Karl Grob was a Swiss professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Grob is considered to be a legend for Zürich, as he was there for 20 years and helped the team win a total of five Swiss Super Leagues and four Swiss Cups.

Orlando Sabino Camargo, known as the Monster of Capinópolis, was a Brazilian suspected serial killer charged with the murder of 12 people using revolvers and rifles, as well as with the beating and stabbing of 19 calves to death with a sickle in the regions of Triângulo Mineiro; Alto Paranaíba, and in southern Goiás. Sabino was also accused committing numerous crimes such as theft, robbery and rape.

Grigory Aleksandrovich Margulis is a Russian-American mathematician known for his work on lattices in Lie groups, and the introduction of methods from ergodic theory into diophantine approximation. He was awarded a Fields Medal in 1978, a Wolf Prize in Mathematics in 2005, and an Abel Prize in 2020, becoming the fifth mathematician to receive the three prizes. In 1991, he joined the faculty of Yale University, where he is currently the Erastus L. De Forest Professor of Mathematics.

Lucien Van Impe is a Belgian cyclist, who competed professionally between 1969 and 1987. He excelled mainly as a climber in multiple-day races such as the Tour de France. He was the winner of the 1976 Tour de France, and six times winner of the mountains classification in the Tour de France.

He was succeeded by Gloria Calderón de Oñate while the presidential campaign was taking place. After the election, he returned to the mayor office to resume his duties.
