Richard Adolf Zsigmondy was an Austrian-Hungarian chemist. He was known for his research in colloids, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1925. The crater Zsigmondy on the Moon is named in his honour.

He was elected from the Latur Rural to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in 2019 as a member of the Indian National Congress. He won by a margin of 121482 which is third largest in terms of votes in 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election.
