He was a member of the Socialist Party before joining La République En Marche! in 2017.

He then changed to two-person and three person keelboat events and won a bronze medal at the 1972 Olympics, placing sixth-eighth in 1976 and 1984; he missed the 1980 Moscow Games due to their boycott by West Germany.

Horst-Dieter Höttges is a German former footballer who played as a defender. Having started his career with hometown club Borussia Mönchengladbach, he spent most of his career with Werder Bremen. At international level, he represented West Germany from 1965 to 1974, amassing 66 caps and scoring 1 goal.
