Michael John Cloete Crawford Rutherford is an English guitarist, bassist, songwriter, and singer who co-founded the rock band Genesis in 1967. He is one of the group's two continuous members along with keyboardist Tony Banks.

He later studied at the University of Television and Film in Munich and worked for Constantin Film and as an assistant for Peter Zadek at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. After producing several plays at theaters in Hamburg, Heidelberg and Cologne, he began to write and direct episodes for the TV series Der Fahnder.

O'Reilly has also appeared in over a hundred films and television episodes, and has acted both on Broadway and at Carnegie Hall. His links with the Colony Theatre Company resulted in him being awarded a Drama-Logue Award in 1981 for directing the play Getting Out.
