Zhou Nan was a prominent Chinese politician and diplomat, and served as Director of the Xinhua News Agency in Hong Kong, Vice Minister of the People's Republic of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador to the United Nations. He was also a member of the Standing Committee of the 7th and 8th National People's Congress, and a member of the 14th Central Committee of the CPC. He is best known as China's delegation head and main representative during negotiations for the transfer of sovereignties of Hong Kong and Macau from Britain and Portugal to China.

Adrian Michael Smith is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Nebraska's 3rd congressional district since 2007. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served in the Nebraska Legislature, representing the 48th district from 1999 to 2007.

Forrest David Mathews served as the 11th United States Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare from 1975 to 1977, during the administration of President Gerald R. Ford. He also served two nonconsecutive terms as the president of the University of Alabama. Since the 1980s he has been president and chief executive officer of the Kettering Foundation.
