He could be considered an empiricist, in contrast to the idealism prevalent in Germany at the time, but his account of what constitutes the empirical and experiential differs from British empiricism and positivism in its central epistemological and ontological assumptions, which are drawn from German literary and philosophical traditions.

Harun el-Raschid Bey, born Wilhelm Hintersatz was a German officer and SS Standartenführer, born in Senftenberg, Brandenburg. During World War II, he commanded the Osttürkischer Waffenverband division of the SS.

Wilhelm List was a German field marshal during World War II who was convicted of war crimes by a US Army tribunal after the war. List commanded the 14th Army in the invasion of Poland and the 12th Army in the invasions of France, Yugoslavia and Greece.
