He is most notable for his roles as Scarpia in Tosca, Iago in Otello, Grand-prétre de Dagon in Samson et Dalila and Simon Boccanegra as the title role. Leiferkus was born in Leningrad, Russia. He studied music at the St. Petersburg conservatory.

He is widely considered to have been one of the key figures in Russian politics at the end of 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century. He was made a count following his service to the government in negotiations over the end of the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905.

Sergei Alexandrovich Zubov is a former professional ice hockey defenceman and former head coach of HC Sochi of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Zubov played for the Dallas Stars, New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League as well as SKA Saint Petersburg of the KHL. Zubov won the Stanley Cup twice: with the Rangers in 1994 and the Stars in 1999. Zubov was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2019.
