Monique Wittig was a French author, philosopher and feminist theorist who wrote about overcoming socially enforced gender roles and who coined the phrase "heterosexual contract". She published her first novel, L'Opoponax, in 1964. Her second novel, Les Guérillères (1969), was a landmark in lesbian feminism.

Peter Wittig is a former German diplomat and has been Germany's Ambassador to the Court of St. James in the United Kingdom from July, 2018, to April, 2020, after having served as Ambassador to the United States from April 30, 2014, to June 20, 2018 and Permanent Representative at the United Nations in New York from 2009 to 2014.

Georg Wittig was a German chemist who reported a method for synthesis of alkenes from aldehydes and ketones using compounds called phosphonium ylides in the Wittig reaction. He shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Herbert C. Brown in 1979.
