List of Famous people who died in 1990

Spark Masayuki Matsunaga was an American politician who served as United States Senator for Hawaii from 1977 until his death in 1990. A member of the Democratic Party, Matsunaga introduced legislation in the Senate that led to the creation of the Commission on Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians and the United States Institute of Peace.

Taiichi Ohno was a Japanese Industrial engineer and businessman. He is considered to be the father of the Toyota Production System, which inspired Lean Manufacturing in the U.S. He devised the seven wastes as part of this system. He wrote several books about the system, including Toyota Production System: Beyond Large-Scale Production.

John Alvin Ray was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. Highly popular for most of the 1950s, Ray has been cited by critics as a major precursor to what became rock and roll, for his jazz and blues-influenced music, and his animated stage personality. Tony Bennett called Ray the "father of rock and roll," and historians have noted him as a pioneering figure in the development of the genre.

Neil Stonechild was a Saulteaux First Nations teenager who died of hypothermia. Members of the Saskatoon Police Service took him to the northwest section of the city and abandoned him in a field on a night when temperatures were below −28 °C (−18 °F). The practice is known as a starlight tour, and a number of such cases in the Saskatoon area have been referred to collectively as the Saskatoon freezing deaths.
