Segundo Víctor Aurelio Chomón y Ruiz was a pioneering Spanish film director, cinematographer and screenwriter. He produced many short films in France while working for Pathé Frères and has been compared to Georges Méliès, due to his frequent camera tricks and optical illusions. He is regarded as the most significant Spanish silent film director in an international context.

Eugenio Tosi was an Italian Cardinal of the Catholic Church. He served as archbishop of Milan from 1922 until his death, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1922.

Mar Ignatius Dionysius Ephrem II Rahmani was Patriarch of the Syriac Catholic Church from 1898 to 1929 and a Syriac scholar.

Cornelis Lely was a Dutch politician of the Liberal Union (LU) and civil engineer. He oversaw the passage of an act of parliament authorising construction of the Zuiderzee Works, a huge project – designed to his own plans – that turned the Zuiderzee into a lake and made possible the conversion of a vast area of former seabed into dry land.

Edward Carpenter was an English Utopian socialist, poet, philosopher, anthologist, an early activist for gay rights and prison reform whilst advocating vegetarianism and taking a stance against vivisection. As a philosopher he was particularly known for his publication of Civilisation: Its Cause and Cure. Here he described civilisation as a form of disease through which human societies pass.

Johann Heinrich Conrad Gottfried Gustav Steinmann was a German geologist and paleontologist. He performed various studies in the Ural Mountains, North America, South America, the Caucasus and the Alps. Steinmann had a large number of scientific publications. He made contributions to the Theory of Evolution and to the study of the structural geology and orogeny of the Andes.

Carl Auer von Welsbach, who received the hereditary title Freiherr von Welsbach was an Austrian scientist and inventor, who separated didymium into the elements neodymium and praseodymium in 1885. He was also one of three scientists to independently discover the element lutetium, separating it from ytterbium in 1907, setting off the longest priority dispute in the history of chemistry.

Elmore Yocum Sarles was an American politician who was the ninth Governor of North Dakota from 1905 to 1907.
