Jacob Lüroth was a German mathematician who proved Lüroth's theorem and introduced Lüroth quartics. His name is sometimes written Lueroth, following the common printing convention for umlauted characters. He began his studies in astronomy at the University of Bonn, but switched to mathematics when his poor eyesight made taking astronomical observations impossible. He received his doctorate in 1865 from Heidelberg University, for a thesis on Pascal's theorem.

Aleksander Mikhaylovich Zaytsev, also spelled as Saytzeff and Saytzev, was a Russian chemist. He worked on organic compounds and proposed Zaitsev's rule, which predicts the product composition of an elimination reaction.

David Bennett Hill was an American politician from New York who was the 29th Governor of New York from 1885 to 1891 and represented New York in the United States Senate from 1892 to 1897.

George Theodore Werts was an American Democratic Party politician, who served as the 28th Governor of New Jersey from 1893 to 1896. Werts created the Palisades Interstate Park Commission which saved the New Jersey Palisades from being quarried for their rock.

Richard Wilhelm Heinrich Abegg was a German chemist and pioneer of valence theory. He proposed that the difference of the maximum positive and negative valence of an element tends to be eight. This has come to be known as Abegg's rule. He was a gas balloon enthusiast, which caused his death at the age of 41 when he crashed in his balloon in Silesia.
