Nathaniel Meyer von Rothschild was a member of the Rothschild banking family of Austria, known as art collector and patron.

Oswald Achenbach was a German painter associated with the Düsseldorf school of painting. Though little known today, during his lifetime he was counted among the most important landscape painters of Europe. Through his teaching activities, he influenced the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. His brother, Andreas Achenbach, who was twelve years older, was also among the most important German landscape painters of the 19th century. The two brothers were humorously called "the A and O of Landscapes".

Fra' Giovanni Battista Ceschi a Santa Croce was Lieutenant of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta from 1872 to 1879 and then Prince and Grand Master from 1879 until his death in 1905.

He was an uncle of the World War I flying ace Manfred von Richthofen, best known as the "Red Baron".

He served as a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the National Museum, the Metropolitan Board of Public Works, and the House of Representatives economics committee.

Sir Augustus Charles Gregory was an English-born Australian explorer and surveyor. Between 1846 and 1858 he undertook four major expeditions. He was the first Surveyor-General of Queensland. He was appointed a lifetime Member of the Queensland Legislative Council.
