Lieutenant-Colonel Edward Henry Cooper was an Irish officer in the British Army, a landlord in County Sligo, and a Conservative politician.

Admiral Sir Edward Southwell Sotheby was an English naval officer in the Royal Navy.

Louisa Caroline Baring, Lady Ashburton, was a Scottish art collector and philanthropist who had close connections with several artistic and literary figures of the period.

Wilfred Joseph Cripps was an English antiquarian and a writer on antique silver plate.

Arnoldus Andries des Tombe was a Dutch army officer, genealogist and art collector, notable for his purchase of the Vermeer painting Girl with a Pearl Earring – on the advice of Victor de Stuers, who for years tried to prevent Vermeer's rare works from being sold to parties abroad. Des Tombe purchased the work at an auction in The Hague in 1881, for only two guilders and thirty cents. He had no heirs and donated this and other paintings to the Mauritshuis in 1902.

Mihail Pavel was a Romanian Greek Catholic hierarch. He was bishop of the Romanian Catholic Eparchy of Gherla, Armenopoli, Szamos-Ujvár from 1872 to 1879 and the Romanian Catholic Eparchy of Oradea Mare from 1879 to 1902.

Sokrates Starynkiewicz was a Russian general and the 19th president of Warsaw, between 1875 and 1892. During his presidency he ordered the construction of municipal water works as well as the tramway and telephone network in Warsaw.
