Ali Banat was an Australian businessman, later a humanitarian philanthropist, from the Sydney suburb of Greenacre and of Palestinian descent. After the cancer diagnosis, he donated everything he had for charitable causes. He owned a security and electrical company before getting diagnosed with cancer in October 2015.

Ai Iijima was a Japanese media personality, writer, activist and actress who was an AV idol early in her career, starring in more than 100 films. She later became the hostess on the nighttime television program, Gilgamesh Night, and transitioned away from AV work. After ending her career in adult videos, Iijima released a musical single Naisho DE Ai! Ai! in July 1993 and soon became a regular on daytime TV talk shows. Iijima became involved in campaigns to educate the public about HIV/AIDS, a cause that few Japanese celebrities were willing to undertake.

Dušan Pašek was a Slovak professional ice hockey player who played HC Slovan Bratislava in the Slovak Extraliga.

Mikhail Sergeyevich Tolstykh, better known by his call-sign Givi (Ги́ви), was a commander of the Donetsk People's Republic's Somalia Battalion of the Separatist Forces in the War in Donbass.

Romina Yankelevich, better known as Romina Yan, was an Argentine actress, screenwriter, singer and dancer. She made her television debut in the program Jugate Conmigo, and is most known for her portrayal of Belén Fraga in the internationally successful series Chiquititas created by her mother Cris Morena. She died in 2010, aged 36, after suffering a heart attack.

William Ryan Owens was a decorated United States Navy SEAL senior chief petty officer. He died in the Yakla raid in Yemen, making him the first American to die in combat under the Trump administration.

Scott John Hutchison was a Scottish singer, songwriter, guitarist and artist. He was the founding member and primary songwriter of the indie rock band Frightened Rabbit, with whom he recorded five studio albums, and created the artwork for each release.

Jarrod Lyle was an Australian professional golfer. He won twice on the 2008 Nationwide Tour. He played a number of seasons on the PGA Tour; his best finish being tied for 4th place in the 2012 Northern Trust Open. Soon after this performance, Lyle was diagnosed with a recurrence of leukemia, with which he was diagnosed as a teenager. Subsequent treatment limited his playing time and in July 2018, Lyle decided to stop treatment. Lyle died on 8 August 2018 at the age of 36.

Michael Kühnen was a leader in the German neo-Nazi movement. He was one of the first post-World War II Germans to openly embrace Nazism and call for the formation of a Fourth Reich. He enacted a policy of setting up several differently named groups in an effort to confuse German authorities, who were attempting to shut down neo-Nazi groups. Kühnen's homosexuality was made public in 1986, and he died of HIV-related complications in 1991.

Lloyd Fernandez Avery II was an American actor. He was best known for his character in John Singleton's Oscar-nominated film Boyz n the Hood (1991), as the triggerman who murdered high school football star Ricky Baker and was later killed in retaliation. In 2005, Avery was convicted of double homicide, and later killed in prison by his cellmate.
