He is a member of the Democratic Party and a self described moderate-centrist. The district extends from the Rio Grande to the suburbs of San Antonio.

Ernest Sabella is an American actor. He is best known as the voice of Pumbaa from The Lion King franchise, and played the role of Mr. Donald "Twinkie" Twinkacetti in Perfect Strangers (1986-1987). Leon Carosi in the TV sitcom Saved By The Bell. His work in Broadway theatre includes starring roles in Guys and Dolls and Man of La Mancha.

Michel Peter Lafis is a Swedish former cyclist. He won the bronze medal in the Men's 100 kilometres team time trial along with Jan Karlsson, Anders Jarl and Björn Johansson at the 1988 Summer Olympics. He also rode at the 1992, 1996 and the 2000 Summer Olympics.
