A native of Koga, Ibaraki and graduate of Hosei University, he ran unsuccessfully for the assembly of Ibaraki Prefecture in 1994. As of August 2020, according to Forbes magazine, he has a net worth of $2.1 billion, ranking him No. 391 on the Forbes 400.
