Mary Austin was born in 1951 in Fulham, London. She is well-known for her relationship with Freddie Mercury, who referred to her as his "common-law wife." Freddie Mercury is a culturpope icon, the lead vocalist of the British rock band Queen. Queen's record A Night at the Opera (1975) contains the Mercury-penned ballad “Love of My Life,” written for Austin.

Joanna Miles is an American actress. She received two Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Laura Wingfield in the 1973 film production of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie.

Friedrich Guggenberger was a German admiral and U-boat commander in the Second World War. From November 1940 until his capture in July 1943, he was credited with sinking 17 ships for a total of 66,848 gross register tons (GRT) and damaging another for 6,003 GRT. He was responsible for sinking the British aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal in November 1941. For these achievements he received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, among other commendations. After the war he became the Deputy Chief of Staff in the NATO command AFNORTH.

Anselme Gaëtan Desmarest was a French zoologist and author. He was the son of Nicolas Desmarest and father of Eugène Anselme Sébastien Léon Desmarest. Desmarest was a disciple of Georges Cuvier and Alexandre Brongniart, and in 1815, he succeeded Pierre André Latreille to the professorship of zoology at the École nationale vétérinaire d'Alfort. In 1820 he was elected to the Académie Nationale de Médecine.
