Mohammed al-Mokhtar Soussi was a Moroccan Amazigh scholar, politician and writer who played an important role in the years before Morocco's independence in 1956. Born in the village of Illigh, he was a soufi and an expert on the history of the Sous region and the founder of a school in Marrakesh. From 1956 to 1963 he was minister of religious affairs and member of the Crown Council in the government of Mohammed V.

Ilan Kapoor is a professor of Critical Development Studies at the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change, York University, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is an influential postcolonial scholar, considered one of the first to bring both psychoanalysis and postcolonial analysis to the field of Development Studies. He is the author of four books and numerous articles on postcolonial politics, psychoanalysis, participatory development, and celebrity humanitarianism.
