Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh was an Azerbaijani poet, dramatist, lyricist and translator as well as a college professor and politician. He is often regarded as the second greatest contemporary poet of Azerbaijan, after Samed Vurgun.

Mirza Fatali Akhundov, also known as Mirza Fatali Akhundzade or Mirza Fath-Ali Akhundzadeh, was a celebrated Iranian Azerbaijani author, playwright, ultra-nationalist, philosopher, and founder of Azerbaijani modern literary criticism, "who acquired fame primarily as the writer of European-inspired plays in the Azeri Turkic language". Akhundzade singlehandedly opened a new stage of development of Azerbaijani literature. He was also the founder of materialism and atheism movement in the Republic of Azerbaijan and one of forerunners of modern Iranian nationalism. He wrote in Azerbaijani, Persian and Russian.

Haji Chalabi Khan, was a statesman, warlord, khan, ruler and founder of Shaki Khanate.

Shafiga Akhundova was a prominent Azerbaijani composer, the first professional female author of an opera in the East and People’s Artist of Azerbaijan. Akhundova was born into a family of an eminent cultural figure Gulam Akhundov.

Fatali Khan Isgender oglu Khoyski was an Azerbaijani attorney, a member of the Second State Duma of the Russian Empire, Minister of Internal Affairs, Minister of Defense and, later the first Prime Minister of the independent Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
