List of Famous people born in Russia

Denis Nikolayevich Menchov is a former professional Russian road bicycle racer, who rode as a professional between 2000 and 2013. He was best known as a general classification rider, a climber, and a very good time trialist. In 2005 he finished second in the Vuelta a España, but in 2007 he would finish as the champion. Menchov also won the centenary Giro d'Italia in 2009, and finished second in the Tour de France in 2010 becoming the first Russian to do so. He was later disqualified from this Tour de France, along with the 2009 and 2012 editions, due to adverse biological passport findings.

Alexander Maximov is a Russian political figure and deputy of the 7th and 8th State Dumas. In 1998, he was granted a Candidate of Sciences in Technical Sciences degree.

Valery Anatolyevich Rubakov is a Russian theoretical physicist. His scientific interests include quantum field theory, elementary particle physics, and cosmology. He is affiliated with the Institute for Nuclear Research (INR) of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow.

Tetyana Apaycheva is a Ukrainian retired middle-distance runner who represented the Soviet Union until 1991, the Unified Team in 1992, and later Ukraine. She is the 1988 Olympic champion in the 3000 metres.

Yuri Nikolayevich Koptev is a former General Director of the Russian Space Agency (Roscosmos), serving in that role from 1992 to 2004. He was replaced in 2004 by Anatoly Perminov, a former commander of the Russian Space Forces.

Larisa Dmitriyevna Ilchenko is a Russian long-distance swimmer. She has won eight world titles and a gold at the 2008 Olympics.
