Al-Ghanim earned a BSc in mechanical engineering from Seattle University and worked for Boubyan Petrochemical Company before being elected to the National Assembly in 2006. He is the son of Ali Mohammed Thunayan Al-Ghanim and Faiza Al-Kharafi. He was elected as the Speaker in 2013.

Andrew Goodman was an American activist. He was one of three Civil Rights Movement activists murdered during Freedom Summer in 1964 by members of the Ku Klux Klan.

He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and was the younger brother of the surfer and Olympic gold medalist Duke Kahanamoku and elder brother of Sargent Kahanamoku.
