Jan Gillisz van Vliet, was a Dutch Golden Age painter and Rembrandt pupil, whose paintings are no longer attributed to him with any certainty. Today he is known only for his drawings and prints.

François Paul Louis Pollen (1842–1886) was a Dutch naturalist and merchant. He made major contributions to the study of the Malagasy fauna.

Thomas Joannes Stieltjes was a Dutch mathematician. He was a pioneer in the field of moment problems and contributed to the study of continued fractions. The Thomas Stieltjes Institute for Mathematics at Leiden University, dissolved in 2011, was named after him, as is the Riemann–Stieltjes integral.
