He was nominated by President Donald Trump on March 2, 2020 and was sworn on May 29, 2020. He served as the United States Ambassador to Norway from February 8, 2018 until his confirmation. Braitwaite is also a retired United States Navy one-star rear admiral. He was a former top advisor to former Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter.
