João Nuno de Lacerda Teixeira de Melo, commonly known as Nuno Melo, is a Portuguese lawyer, conservative politician and Member of the European Parliament (MEP) representing the Democratic and Social Centre – People's Party (CDS-PP).

Neal Dow was an American Prohibition advocate and politician. Nicknamed the "Napoleon of Temperance" and the "Father of Prohibition", Dow was born to a Quaker family in Portland, Maine. From a young age, he believed alcohol to be the cause of many of society's problems and wanted to ban it through legislation. In 1850, Dow was elected president of the Maine Temperance Union, and the next year he was elected mayor of Portland. Soon after, largely due to Dow's efforts, the state legislature banned the sale and production of alcohol in what became known as the Maine law. Serving twice as mayor of Portland, Dow enforced the law with vigor and called for increasingly harsh penalties for violators. In 1855, his opponents rioted and he ordered the state militia to fire on the crowd. One man was killed and several wounded, and when public reaction to the violence turned against Dow, he chose not to seek reelection.

K. R. Ramaswamy, referred to by the media as Traffic Ramaswamy, was an Indian public interest litigator and social activist from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He was a former mill worker, a founder member of Tamil Nadu's Home Guard, and a self-appointed traffic policeman.

Byron Antom Scott is an American former professional basketball head coach and player. He last coached the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). As a player, Scott won three NBA championships with the Lakers during their Showtime era in the 1980s.

Evan Reese Jager is an American distance runner. He is the current North American record holder in the 3000 m steeplechase with a time of 8:00.45, which makes him the 13th fastest performer in the history of the event. He is sponsored by Nike and is coached by Jerry Schumacher in the Bowerman Track Club. On August 17, 2016 Jager won the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics for the Steeplechase.

Dean Stanley Geyer is a South African Australian singer-songwriter and actor who finished third in the 2006 season of the talent show television series Australian Idol, and has had a notable role in the Australian soap opera Neighbours as Ty Harper. He joined the cast of the US show Glee in the 4th season as NYADA Junior Brody Weston and appeared in Terra Nova as Mark Reynolds.

During an anti-globalization demonstration outside the July 2001 G8 summit in Genoa, Italy, protester Carlo Giuliani was shot dead by riot police as he and other demonstrators attacked their van, making his the first death during an anti-globalization demonstration since the movement's rise from the 1999 Seattle WTO protests. Photographs showed Giuliani, a 23-year-old Roman living in Genoa, throwing a fire extinguisher towards the van, a pistol firing a shot in return from the van, and Giuliani's body having been run over by the van. Charges against the officer were initially dropped without trial as a judge ruled that the ricocheted bullet was fired in self-defense, but the incident became a point of public scrutiny. The European Court of Human Rights, eight years after the incident, ruled that the Italian forces had acted within their limits, though damages were awarded for the state's procedural handling of the case. Appeals upheld the ruling, and Giuliani's family later filed a civil suit. Giuliani was memorialized in music tributes and public monuments, and is remembered as a symbol of the 2001 G8 protests. The 2002 documentary Carlo Giuliani, Boy, recounts the incident.
