Alfrēds Rubiks is a Latvian communist politician and a former leader of the Communist Party of Latvia. He was a Member of the European Parliament for Latvia from 2009 until 2014. In the European Parliament he was a member of the European United Left–Nordic Green Left group.

Alvis Hermanis is a Latvian theatre director, set designer and actor. Since 1997 he works at the New Riga Theatre. Hermanis was one of the establishers of the theatre in 1992 and since 1997 has worked as the artistic director of the theatre. His style of direction is often associated with postdramatic theatre.

Dainis Dukurs is a Latvian retired bobsledder, manager of Sigulda bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track, member of Sigulda municipal council and skeleton coach.

Ostwald is credited with being one of the founders of the field of physical chemistry, with Jacobus Henricus van 't Hoff, Walther Nernst, and Svante Arrhenius. He received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1909 for his scientific contributions to the fields of catalysis, chemical equilibria and reaction velocities.

Juris Silovs was a Latvian athlete from Krāslava who competed for Soviet Union from 1970 til 1978, mainly in the 100 metres. He trained at the VSS Vārpa in Riga.
