Carroll was selected 27th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2009 NBA draft and has also played for the Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz, Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors, and Brooklyn Nets. Carroll formerly played for the University of Missouri and Vanderbilt University. He is the nephew of former Missouri and former Arkansas men's basketball coach Mike Anderson.
