Alfonso Franco, was an Italian painter from Messina, Sicily, active during the Italian Renaissance.

Lucius Afranius was an ancient Roman plebeian and a client of Pompey the Great. He served Pompey as a legate during his Iberian campaigns, his eastern campaigns and remained in his service right through to the Civil War. He died in Africa right after the Battle of Thapsus in 46 BC.

Paolo Giovio was an Italian physician, historian, biographer, and prelate.

Alessandro Pieroni was an Italian architect and painter. He was active mainly in a Mannerist style, working for the courts of Grandukes Francesco I and Ferdinando I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany.

Alessandro Ferruccio Nova is an Italian art historian who specialises in the Renaissance. He is Director Emeritus of the Art History Institute of Florence (KHI) – the Max-Plank-Institute and Honorary Professor of Goethe University Frankfurt.

Alessandro Butti was an Italian type designer who lived and worked mostly in Turin where he was art director of the Nebiolo type foundry. He also taught at the Scuola Vigliani-Paravia. Microgramma is his most famous face. After Butti's death, his collaborator on that face, Aldo Novarese, added a lower case which was then called Eurostile.

Bruno di Segni was an Italian Roman Catholic prelate and professed member from the Order of Saint Benedict who served as the Bishop of Segni and the Abbot of Montecassino. He studied under the Benedictines in Bologna before being appointed as the canon of the Siena cathedral and before he was invited to Rome where he became a bishop and counselled four consecutive popes. He served as an abbot in Montecassino but his chastising Pope Paschal II on the Concordat of Segni in 1111 prompted the pope to relieve him from his duties as abbot and ordered Bruno to return to his diocese where he died just over a decade later. Bruno's canonization was celebrated on 5 September 1181 under Pope Lucius III who presided over the celebration in the late bishop's diocese.

Pope Valentine was the bishop of Rome and ruler of the Papal States for two months in 827. He was unusually close to his predecessor, Eugene II, rumoured to be his son or his lover, and became pope before being ordained as a priest. He was a nobleman and elected by nobility, which later became the custom.
