al-Ma'arri
Abū al-ʿAlāʾ al-Maʿarrī was a blind Arab philosopher, poet, and writer. Despite holding a controversially irreligious worldview, he is regarded as one of the greatest classical Arabic poets.
Abu Mohammad al-Adnani
Taha Subhi Falaha, known as Abu Muhammad al-Adnani al-Shami, was the official spokesperson and a senior leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. He was described as the chief of its external operations. He was the second most senior leader of the Islamic State after its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Media reports in August 2016 suggested he was in charge of a special unit, known as the Emni, that was established by ISIL in 2014 with the double objective of internal policing and executing operations outside the ISIL territory.
Raed Fares (activist)
Raed Fares was a Syrian journalist, activist and civil society leader from Kafr Nabl, Syria. He was the founder of Radio Fresh FM in 2013, an independent radio station reaching audiences in Idlib, Aleppo, and Hamah provinces.
Ibn al-Wardi
Abū Ḥafs Zayn al-Dīn ʻUmar ibn al-Muẓaffar Ibn al-Wardī, known as Ibn al-Wardi, was an Arab historian AH 691 (1291/1292)- AH 749 (1348/1349), the author of Kharīdat al-ʿAjā'ib wa farīdat al-gha'rāib, a geographical treatise with sections on natural history. He also wrote Tarikh Ibn al-Wardi.
Riad al-Asaad
Riad Mousa al-Asaad is a Syrian military leader and politician. Since 2 November 2017, he is the Deputy Prime Minister for Military Affairs of the Syrian Salvation Government. He is a former military commander of the Free Syrian Army. He was a former Colonel in the Syrian Air Force who defected in July 2011.
