She is the current world record holder of the women's 100-metre backstroke. She competed in the women's 200 metre backstroke event at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships. She won the 100 metre backstroke at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics setting a new Olympic record of 57.47 seconds.
