He was appointed to that position on 8 August 2013 and has since played a key role in developing AS Monaco's team and securing its position, including negotiating key agreements with Ligue 1 and with UEFA around its Financial Fair Play Regulations. He has also gained a reputation as an effective operator in the transfer market, beginning with a number of high-profile signings completed during the 2013 summer transfer window. He was sacked soon after the return of manager Leonardo Jardim on 14 February 2019 due to Monaco's poor form.

Yevgeny Alexandrovich Chuplinsky is a Russian serial killer who committed his crimes in Novosibirsk, Russia, having murdered 19 women between 1998 and 2006. The victims were sex workers, and Chuplinsky is dubbed the Maniac of Novosibirsk or the Novosibirsk Maniac. Despite a large-scale investigation by police and several arrests, the perpetrator of the killings was arrested only in 2016, being sentenced to a term of life imprisonment on 6 March 2018.

Ospina's father, Ivan Marino Ospina, was a guerrilla fighter and co-founder of the revolutionary group 19th of April Movement (M-19).
