Ashot Apetovich Amatuni was an Armenian officer in the Red Army during World War II who received the title Hero of the Soviet Union for his bravery during the battles in Poland. After the war he remained in the military, becoming a general. After retiring from the military he initially lived in Yerevan, but later moved to Crimea where he served as a deputy in the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
