He is known for playing Rory Williams, one of the Eleventh Doctor's companions in the television series Doctor Who (2010–2012), Rip Hunter in Legends of Tomorrow (2016–2018) and as Rev. Paul Coates in Broadchurch (2013–2017). From 2013 to 2014 he appeared in the lead role in the theatre musical Once in the West End and on Broadway.

Arthur Scargill is a British trade unionist. He was President of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) from 1982 to 2002.
