Had the Ottoman Empire not been dissolved and succeeded by the Republic of Turkey, he would have become caliph and Sultan Osman V. He was also known as Sultan Ertuğrul II in reference to Ertuğrul, the father of Osman I.

The monarchy was abolished in 1922, with the modern Republic of Turkey replacing it.

Osman Ahmed Osman
Osman Ahmed Osman was an Egyptian engineer, contractor, entrepreneur, and politician. Known commonly as el-mo'alim, Osman founded the Arab Contractors and led the Egyptian effort to build the Aswan Dam. He went on to become the Egyptian Minister of Housing and Development and later a member of the Egyptian Parliament.
