Gabriel Imomotimi Okara was a Nigerian poet and novelist who was born in Bumoundi in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The first Modernist poet of Anglophone Africa, he is best known for his early experimental novel, The Voice (1964), and his award-winning poetry, published in The Fisherman's Invocation (1978) and The Dreamer, His Vision (2005). In both his poems and his prose, Okara drew on African thought, religion, folklore and imagery, and he has been called "the Nigerian Negritudist". According to Brenda Marie Osbey, editor of his Collected Poems, "It is with publication of Gabriel Okara's first poem that Nigerian literature in English and modern African poetry in this language can be said truly to have begun."

Peter Talbot Westergaard was an American composer and music theorist. He was Professor Emeritus of music at Princeton University.

Rafael Coronel was a painter from Mexico. He was the son-in-law of Diego Rivera. His representational paintings have a melancholic sobriety, and include faces from the past great masters, often floating in a diffuse haze. There are some paintings of his own in Mexico and in other countries. In what was the convent of San Francisco De Almoloyan y De Asis, located in Zacatecas, there is a museum named after him; in this museum, his vast mask collection is shown.

Karl Hurm was a contemporary German painter. Hurm was a self-taught artist whose paintings in the style referred to as naïve art have been on permanent display in an exhibition at the municipal art museum Ölmühle in Haigerloch (Germany) since 1998.

Kenneth Lee O'Neil Baugh, was a Jamaican politician and surgeon. A member of the Jamaica Labour Party, he served as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, and Minister of Health.

Berkley Warren Bedell was an American Democratic Party politician and businessman who served as the U.S. Representative for Iowa's 6th congressional district from 1975 to 1987. After starting a successful business in his youth, Berkley Fly Co., he ran for Congress in 1972, but was defeated by incumbent Wiley Mayne. In 1974 however, Bedell beat Mayne and was elected to the U.S. House.

André Lurton was a French winemaker and winery owner. It is also the name of his eponymous winemaking group in Bordeaux which was mostly owned by him and after his death only by his children.
