Huang Huoqing was a politician of the People's Republic of China.

Xie Wanying, better known by her pen name Bing Xin or Xie Bingxin, was one of the most prolific Chinese women writers of the 20th century. Many of her works were written for young readers. She was the chairperson of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. Her pen name Bing Xin carries the meaning of a morally pure heart, and is taken from a line in a Tang Dynasty poem by Wang Changling.

Abdullah Sungkar founded and led Jemaah Islamiyah, an Islamist terrorist and separatist organization. He was of Hadhrami Arab descent.

Fateh al-Moudarres (1922–1999) was a Syrian painter and one of the leaders of the modern art movement in Syria. Moudarres studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome, where he was influenced by Surrealism. After he completed his studies, he returned to Syria where he grew and honed his skills under the auspices of long-time friend, mentor, and tutor Wahbi Al-Hariri.

Lu Yu-wen was a Taiwanese politician. He served as Minister of Justice from 1989 to 1993. Lu was later named Vice President of the Judicial Yuan, serving from 1993 to 1998. He died in 1999 due to lung cancer. He is survived by a son and three daughters, all born to his first wife, who had died in 1994.
