William Sprague IV was the 27th Governor of Rhode Island from 1860 to 1863, and U.S. Senator from 1863 to 1875. He participated in the First Battle of Bull Run during the American Civil War while he was a sitting Governor.

John Tracy Morrison was the sixth Governor of Idaho from 1903 until 1905.

John Cuthbert Hedley was a British Benedictine and writer who held high offices in the Roman Catholic Church.

Princess Marie Radziwill was a French noblewoman, a member of the house of Castellane. The famous dandy Boni de Castellane was her nephew.

Ambrosius Arnold Willem Hubrecht was a Dutch zoologist.

Adeline Louisa Maria, Countess of Cardigan and Lancastre was the second wife of the English peer James Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan, and later the wife of the Portuguese nobleman Don António Manuel de Saldanha e Lancastre, Conde de Lancastre. She was the claimed author of scandalous memoirs, My Recollections, published in 1909, under the name Adeline Louisa Maria de Horsey Cardigan and Lancastre, though strictly speaking she was not allowed by the rules governing the British peerage to join her former and current titles together. Her book detailed events and people coupled with gossip concerning the establishment of Victorian England. After her marriage to the Earl of Cardigan in 1858, Queen Victoria had refused to have her at court because Cardigan had left his first wife.

Admiral Sir Algernon Charles Fieschi Heneage was a Royal Navy officer who went on to be Commander-in-Chief, The Nore. Dubbed "Pompo," he was known for his immaculate dress and his white-glove inspections of the ships under his command.

Isaac Leopold Rice was a German-born Jewish American businessman, investor, musicologist, author, and chess patron. As part of a successful career in the manufacturing industry, in 1899 he acquired the Holland Torpedo Boat Company, which was renamed the Electric Boat Company and produced submarines for the U.S. and British navies. It continues today as General Dynamics Electric Boat.

Mutaga IV Mbikije was the king of Burundi from 21 August 1908 until 30 November 1915. He was the son of Mwami Mwezi IV. He had two sons:
