Octave Hamelin was a French philosopher. He taught as a professor at the University of Bordeaux (1884-) and the University of Sorbonne (1905-). Hamelin was a close friend of the sociologist Émile Durkheim, with whom he shared an interest in the French philosopher Charles Renouvier. He is also known as a translator of classical Greek philosophers.

George William Vidal was a British lawyer who worked in the Indian Civil Services in the Bombay Presidency and contributed to natural history studies from the Konkan region, and was involved in popularizing the modern form of badminton in India and in establishing the formal rules of the game. He observed and collected bird and snake specimens and collaborated with other naturalists in the region. A couple of bird subspecies are named after him.

George Edward Milles-Lade, 2nd Earl Sondes, styled Viscount Throwley from 1880 to 1894, was an English aristocrat and amateur cricketer. He was the eldest son of George Milles, 1st Earl Sondes, and succeeded as the 2nd Earl in September 1894. He was born at Lees Court at Sheldwich south of Faversham in Kent in 1861.
