Violet Hamilton Cliff was a British pair skater who competed with her husband, Leslie Cliff. The couple finished seventh at the 1936 Winter Olympics. That same year, they won the silver medal at the European Figure Skating Championships and the bronze at the World Figure Skating Championships. They won another bronze at the 1937 World Championships. She was born in Bath, Somerset, England.

Giovanni Francesco Malagodi was an Italian liberal politician, secretary of the Italian Liberal Party and president of the Italian Senate.

András Szőllősy was the creator of the Szőllősy index, a frequently used index of the works of Hungarian composer Béla Bartók.

Thoralf Strømstad was a Norwegian Nordic skier who was awarded the Holmenkollen medal in 1923. Strømstad also earned silvers at the 1924 Winter Olympics both in 50 km cross-country skiing and in the Nordic combined.

Bernhard Heisig was a German painter and graphic artist. Long-time director of the Leipzig Academy and a leading figure in East Germany's "Leipzig School," which included Wolfgang Mattheuer and Werner Tübke, he painted in the tradition of Max Beckmann, Otto Dix, and Oskar Kokoschka. His experiences from World War II on both the western and eastern fronts were a recurring subject in his art beginning in the late 1960s, and it is for these works that he is best known in the West. Highly regarded on both sides of the Berlin Wall in the 1980s, he was at the center of controversy after German unification when his painting Time and Life was selected to hang in the German parliament. The painting is a panorama of German history and hangs in the cafeteria on the first floor of the Reichstag building. The controversy was part of the larger German-German Bilderstreit over what role East German art and artists should be allowed to play in the new Germany.

Luciano Maggini was an Italian road bicycle racer who competed professionally between 1946 and 1957. He rode the Giro d'Italia in 1947–53 with the best result of fifth place overall in 1950; he won individual stages in 1947–49 and 1951. His elder brother Sergio was also a professional road racer.

Gilbert Saint Elmo Heron was a Jamaican professional footballer. He was the first black player to play for Scottish club Celtic and was the father of poet and musician Gil Scott-Heron.

He was Sterling Professor Emeritus of Sociology and Political Science at Yale University and an honorary member of the Scientific Council at the Juan March Institute. He is best known for his theories on totalitarian and authoritarian systems of government.
