Fred Pagnam was an English footballer and manager. Pagnam played as a forward in the Football League for clubs Huddersfield Town, Blackpool, Liverpool, Arsenal, Cardiff City and Watford, and in non-league football for Lytham, Blackpool Wednesday, Doncaster Rovers, Southport Central and Gainsborough Trinity. As manager, he took charge of Watford, Galatasaray, the Turkish national team, and several clubs in the Netherlands.

John Leslie Palmer was an English author. Under his own name, he wrote extensively about early English actors and about British literary figures. He also wrote fiction under the collaborative pseudonyms Francis Beeding, Christopher Haddon, David Pilgrim and John Somers.

Joseph Anton von Maffei was a German industrialist. Together with Joseph von Baader (1763–1835) and Baron Theodor Freiherr von Cramer-Klett (1817–1884), Maffei was one of the three most important railway pioneers in Bavaria.

John Anthony Winston was the 15th Governor of the U.S. state of Alabama from 1853 to 1857. He was born in 1812 in Madison County, Alabama Territory, and became the first native born governor of Alabama. He was a son of William Winston and Mary Cooper of Tuscumbia Alabama. William was a son of Anthony Winston and Keziah Jones former residents of Buckingham County Virginia. John Anthony Winston married his first cousin, Mary Agness Jones, on August 7, 1832 in Madison County Alabama. He died December 21, 1871 in Mobile, Alabama and is buried in the Winston Family Cemetery near Gainesville in Sumter County Alabama. He had only one child, a daughter, Mary Agnes Winston. In January 1867 he presented his credentials to the United States Senate as Senator-elect from Alabama for the term 1867–1873, but was not permitted to take his seat.

Serafino Cretoni was an Italian Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church who served as Prefect of the Sacred Congregation of Rites from 1903 until his death, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1896.

Alfred Cumming was appointed governor of the Utah Territory in 1858 replacing Brigham Young following the Utah War, when President James Buchanan wanted a non-Mormon governor. He was born in Augusta, Georgia.
