Joan Lyn Slonczewski (they/them) is an American microbiologist at Kenyon College and a science fiction writer who explores biology and space travel. Their books have twice earned the John W. Campbell Memorial Award for Best Science Fiction Novel: A Door into Ocean (1987) and The Highest Frontier (2011). With John W. Foster they coauthored the textbook, Microbiology: An Evolving Science. They explore ideas of biology, politics, and artificial intelligence at their blog Ultraphyte.

Andrea Peron is an Italian former professional road bicycle racer. He competed in the team time trial at the 1992 Summer Olympics winning a silver medal. Peron turned professional in 1993, riding for team Gatorade. He is best remembered for leading the sombre peloton across the finish line in the neutralised Stage 16 of the 1995 Tour de France, the day after the death of his team- and roommate Fabio Casartelli in a fall.
