Johann Theodor Roemhildt (1684–1756) was a German Baroque composer born in Salzungen. As a child, he studied in Ruhla with Johann Jacob Bach; and from age thirteen on at St. Thomas' School, Leipzig under Johann Schelle and Johann Kuhnau. His fellow students included Christoph Graupner, Johann Friedrich Fasch and Johann David Heinichen.

Otto Graf was a German actor. He appeared in more than 50 films and television shows between 1935 and 1970.

Heinrich Friedrich Weber was a physicist born in the town of Magdala, near Weimar.

Wilhelm Nowack was a German economist who became a journalist and, more briefly, a radio producer. He was also politically engaged. A committed believer in democracy and supporter of the German republic, in 1924 he was a co-founder of the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold movement. Much later, between 1949 and 1952, he served as a member of the ”Bundestag”, based at that time in Bonn. In 1951 he accepted an appointment as State Minister for Finance and Reconstruction for Rhineland-Palatinate, and just over a year later he resigned his seat in the Bundestag.

Johann Heinrich Buttstett was a German Baroque organist and composer. Although he was Johann Pachelbel's most important pupil and one of the last major exponents of the south German organ tradition, Buttstett is best remembered for a dispute with Johann Mattheson.

Ernst Constantin Ranke was a German Protestant theologian; since 1850, a professor of church history. He was the brother of historian Leopold von Ranke (1795–1886), theologian Friedrich Heinrich Ranke (1798–1876) and philologist Karl Ferdinand Ranke (1802–1876).

Hieronymus Florentinus Quehl was a German composer and organist.
