Paul Kagame is a Rwandan politician and former military leader. He is the 6th and current president of Rwanda, having taken office in 2000. Kagame previously commanded the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), a Uganda-based rebel force which invaded Rwanda in 1990 and was one of the parties of the conflict during the Rwandan Civil War and the Rwandan genocide. He was considered Rwanda's de facto leader when he served as Vice President and Minister of Defence under President Pasteur Bizimungu from 1994 to 2000.

Pauline Nyiramasuhuko is a Rwandan politician who was the Minister for Family Welfare and the Advancement of Women. She was convicted of having incited troops and militia to carry out rape during the Rwandan genocide of 1994. She was tried for genocide and incitement to rape as part of the "Butare Group" at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) in Arusha, Tanzania. In June 2011, she was convicted of seven charges and sentenced to life imprisonment. Nyiramasuhuko is the first woman to be convicted of genocide by the ICTR, and the first woman to be convicted of genocidal rape.

Beatrice Munyenyezi is a Rwandan woman known for her involvement in the Rwandan Genocide. She fled to the United States where she successfully applied for political asylum citing persecution in her home country. In 2013, a US court found that she had lied about her involvement. She was stripped of her American citizenship and was given a ten-year sentence.

Anastase Murekezi is a Rwandan politician. He studied in Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare (GSOB) and went on to Louvain-La-Neuve University in Belgium to study agriculture. He was the minister of Public service and labor until 23 July 2014 when he was nominated by President Paul Kagame as the Prime Minister of Rwanda.

Bernard Makuza is a Rwandan politician who was Prime Minister of Rwanda from 8 March 2000 to 6 October 2011. He also served as President of the Senate of Rwanda from 14 October 2014 to 17 October 2019

Jean Kambanda was the prime minister in the caretaker government of Rwanda from the start of the 1994 Rwandan genocide. He is the only head of government to plead guilty to genocide, in the first group of such convictions since the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide came into effect in 1951.
