Elizabeth Macdonald Sellars was a Scottish actress.

James Thomson (1852–1927) was the City Engineer, City Architect, and Housing Director of Dundee, Scotland. He originally planned an immense Beaux Arts style Civic Centre covering the centre of Dundee. At the onset of First World War, his plans were scaled down and he retired in 1924.

George Fiddes Watt was a Scottish portrait painter and engraver.

Stuart Paton was a British director, screenwriter and actor of the silent era. He directed 67 films between 1915 and 1938. He also wrote for 24 films between 1914 and 1927. Despite a sizable list of credits, Paton was never well-regarded, especially as a director. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland and died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles. He was married to actress Ethel Patrick. His remains are buried at Chapel of the Pines Crematory.

Henry McNish, often referred to as Harry McNeish or by the nickname Chippy, was the carpenter on Sir Ernest Shackleton's Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1914–1917. He was responsible for much of the work that ensured the crew's survival after their ship, the Endurance, was destroyed when it became trapped in pack ice in the Weddell Sea. He modified the small boat, James Caird, that allowed Shackleton and five men to make a voyage of hundreds of miles to fetch help for the rest of the crew.

John Watson Bell was a Scottish football player and manager.

George Buchanan was a Scottish historian and humanist scholar. According to historian Keith Brown, Buchanan was "the most profound intellectual sixteenth century Scotland produced." His ideology of resistance to royal usurpation gained widespread acceptance during the Scottish Reformation. Brown says the ease with which King James VII was deposed in 1689 shows the power of Buchananite ideas.

George Combe was a trained Scottish lawyer and a spokesman of the phrenological movement for over 20 years. He founded the Edinburgh Phrenological Society in 1820 and wrote a noted study, The Constitution of Man (1828). After marriage in 1833, Combe took in later years to promoting phrenology internationally.

John Howell (1788–1863) was a Scottish inventor, who lived in Edinburgh. He was, among other things, a bookbinder, author, editor and shopkeeper. Among his more outlandish endeavors were an attempt to fly and to travel underwater in machines that he designed and built himself.
