List of Famous people born in Morocco

Ahmed Bahja is a retired Moroccan footballer. He played for several clubs, including KAC Marrakech and Raja Casablanca. He has also played for the famous UAE club, AlWasl of Dubai. In addition, he played for Al-Nasr, Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia and Al-Gharafa in Qatar 2 Loane spells 1996 & 1998 for Qatar Emir Cup.

Marc-Olivier Strauss-Kahn is a French central banker and international economist whose career began at the French central bank, Banque de France (BDF), in 1978. He has twice been the Chief Economist of the French central bank. In 2017, Governor of Banque de France François Villeroy de Galhau named him Director General, Governor's Special Advisor.

Nawal El Moutawakel is a Moroccan former hurdler, who won the inaugural women's 400 metres hurdles event at the 1984 Summer Olympics, and was the inaugural female, Muslim, born in Africa, Moroccan to become an Olympic medalist (gold). In 2007, El Moutawakel was named the Minister of Sports in the upcoming cabinet of Morocco.

Philippe-Joseph Salazar, a French rhetorician and philosopher, was born on February 10, 1955 in Casablanca, then part of French Morocco. Salazar attended the Lycée Louis-le-Grand a prestigious secondary-school in Paris before studying philosophy, politics and literature at the École Normale Supérieure. Since 1999 Salazar is a Distinguished Professor in Rhetoric at the University of Cape Town, South Africa and presently affiliated to the Law School. Salazar writes a regular column in the French public intellectual online magazine Les Influences. Salazar's lifelong achievements made him the recipient of Africa's premier research award in 2008, the Harry Oppenheimer Fellowship Award. In 2015 he received a prestigious French literary prize for political non-fiction, Prix Bristol des Lumières, for his book on the rhetoric of jihadism: Paroles armées (2015), translated in four languages.

Saïd Bouteflika is an Algerian politician and academic. He is the brother and was a special adviser of Abdelaziz Bouteflika in his former role as President of Algeria, on whom he would have had "considerable influence", especially after the president suffered a serious stroke in 2013. He was also an assistant professor at the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene (USTHB).

Sana Akroud is a Moroccan actress, filmmaker, screenwriter and film producer.
