During his senior year in 2013, Butler broke up 18 passes and had two interceptions and was named first-team All-Gulf South Conference at cornerback. Butler entered the NFL in 2014, signing as an undrafted free agent with the New England Patriots.

He later earned a master's certificate in Clinical Psychology from Harvard University and was a lecturer on drug addiction.
