In the 2008 Olympic tournament he teamed up with Raúl Mesa and lost in the round of 16. At the 2012 Summer Olympics tournament, Herrera partnered with Adrián Gavira. The pair lost in the round of 16 to Brazilians Ricardo Santos and Pedro Cunha. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro Herrera once again played with Gavira, losing to eventual champions from Brazil, Alison Ceruti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt.

John Wesley Carlos is an American former track and field athlete and professional football player. He was the bronze-medal winner in the 200 meters at the 1968 Summer Olympics, and his Black Power salute on the podium with Tommie Smith caused much political controversy. He went on to tie the world record in the 100-yard dash and beat the 200 meters world record. After his track career, he enjoyed a brief stint in the Canadian Football League but retired due to injury.

John Paul "Johnny" Herbert is a former British racing driver and current television announcer for Sky Sports F1. He raced in Formula One from 1989 to 2000, for seven different teams, winning three races and placing 4th in the 1995 championship. He also raced sports cars, winning the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1991 driving a Mazda 787B. He enjoyed much success in lower-level motor racing.
