First elected to Parliament in the 2002 general election, he is a founding member of the Justice and Development Party (AKP). He was the president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from 2010 to 2012.

In 2013, DeGraw released Make a Move, and Something Worth Saving followed in September 2016.
