He played cornerback for ten seasons (1977–1986) with the Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams, and Atlanta Falcons. As a player, Edwards is known for the 1978 "Miracle at the Meadowlands", when he recovered a fumble by New York Giants quarterback Joe Pisarcik and returned it for a game-winning touchdown.
